On Sept 22/18, Westside held its first Toonie Sale - gently used women's clothing were sold for $2/item. Over $1,200 was raised for the Barrie Women's and Children's Shelter.
The Shelter has become the prime recipitant of our “Can in the Hand” program and receives much of the garden produce from Westside's Garden for the Community. Our potatoes, carrots and beets plus other vegetables find their way to their supper table.
Before school starts in September, we collect school supplies and back packs. They are blessed during our worship service and sent to the Shelter to be used by the children and teens living there with their moms.
In recent years, the Women of Westside have hosted a spring "shower" for the Shelter. The guests bring beautifully wrapped presents for the home - pillows, dishes, sheets, etc. - anything a woman and her family might need to start life anew after their time in the Shelter.
